On to our ARTS FOR ANIMALS work in Zambia and Zimbabwe

After leaving our friends in Dar es Salaam, we flew back to Johannesburg to pick up several suitcases full of art supplies, educational materials and wristbands for our work in Zambia and Zimbabwe. We flew through Zambia and drove across the famous Zambezi Gorge bridge into Zimbabwe to avoid the high Zimbabwen import taxes.The next day we drove west through the hot,arid bush near Hwange National Park to work with our friends at Painted Dog Conservation.

we have been working with PDC for two years now and really enjoy working with them at their Bush camp for kids

This wonderful facility offers sixth-grade children from all over Zimbabwe an opportunity to spend four days visiting a national park, learning about their wildlife and environment and becoming better stewards of their natural resources

This is the first time we taught kids who spoke no English so we use their teacher as an interpreter

We also had several children who were hearing-impaired, luckily we got a signer to help us communicate with them

During our class, the kids get to draw their own art on posters we developed

These posters feature wildlife conservation messages and we have been told that the posters hold a special place in the homes of these kids. They are a great tool for spreading wildlife conservation messages

Since then she has worked toward a career in wildlife conservation and was the first female member of the anti-poaching squad sponsored by the PDC. She is also the first recipient of our" Brown Woman Rangers Scholarship " .

As an Animal Protector, these kids sign a contract and get a wristband to show that they understand the value of their wildlife to their heritage and to their future. There are almost 5000 Animal Protectors participating in this program

Painted dog conservation is made a huge effort to support their staff and change the lives of local folks

This is our friend Wiltons campus home, in a small development provided by painted dog conservation. Here they house their K-9 unit, anti-poaching unit, and educational staff. It's a very extensive, well done, and I'm sure ,expensive ,operation.

This Iganyana Craft village, where PDC has enlisted local folks to make wire sculptures from snare wire and other scraps

This Enterprise allows local folks to make a living and feed their families without snaring or killing animals. It's a great program to help stop animal poaching in the area.

Not only do they run a shop near the park but they also supply snare wire animals to zoos around the world.
