This is where my ashes should be scattered. Moremi is a magical place inside the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Here, a lone bull seeks his solitude in the marsh where the grasses are easier to digest and the demands on his patience are few. The Zambezi is a seasonal river, flowing into the heart of the Kalahari and fanning out in shallow tributaries along the Delta in Botswana. I had been camping on a tiny island on that river when I saw the matriarch lead her family across. They moved without making the tiniest sound, vanishing as a mirage into the tall papyrus on the far bank.
This is, very much, a piece about family.
